To screen for and diagnose sexually transmitted infection
When To Get Tested?
As part of routine screening STD lab for people who are sexually active and at risk for sexually transmitted disease.
When STD symptoms are present e.g foul-smelling genital discharge, itching, pain or burning during urination or intercourse, irritation, and/or swollen testicles (for men)
Sample Required?
The initial portion of the urine stream.
Test Preparation Needed?
The best sample is the initial portion of the urine stream of the first urine of the day, or wait for one to two hours before the last urination to collect samples.
